Stefano Di Filippo & Anna Melnikova splitAfter a very successful partnership of 3 years, the reigning IDSF World Amateur Latin champions Stefano Di Filippo & Anna Melnikova decided to end their dancing together. They announced their decision immediately after winning the Blackpool Amateur Latin title. Last 12 months were particularily successfull for Anna and Stefano. They won all the competitions they participated in. In Feb 2009 they became the Italian champions, in Apr 2009 they won the European Championships. They also were the UK Open 2009 champions and winners of the International Championships in October 2008. See more results and a vast gallery of photos (over 1,900!) which we have in the database. Anna will be dancing with another partner. We do not know of Stefano plans. posted by Maxim

Blackpool Dance Festival 2009 (Professional Latin)Professional Latin Today in Blackpool all spectators could watch the top of the tops in Professional Latin style. All the best professional couples were dancing on the floor. Traditionally during professional events at British Open competition, starting from the top 48, each dance is judged separately and potentially different dancers are recalled for each dance. Quite often it happens that the final in each dance is slightly different. However this year it was a special night. The same couples were recalled for each dance in the final. Polish couple Michal Malitowski & Joanna Leunis defended their title of the British Professional Latin Champion taking the first place in Cha cha, Samba, Rumba and Paso Doble and 2nd in Jive becoming one of the few who won the Blackpool title more than once in the same category. The second place (as a year ago) was taken by US couple Riccardo Cocchi & Yulia Zagorouitchenko who won Jive. Third place went to the Germans Franco Formica & Oxana Lebedew who were third in three dances (Cha Cha, Rumba, Paso Doble and Jive). It was a really spectacular dance evening.

Blackpool Dance Festival 2009 (Amateur Latin)
Amateur LatinThe title of the British Open winner in the any of the main events is the most important dance title in the world. So there was no surprise that fight for each round was fierce and that there was a lot tears from couples who did not manage as well as they expected. But unfortunately there can be only one winner in each category and this year this great title in Amateur Latin went to the Italian couple Stefano Di Filippo & Anna Melnikova. They have won all the five dances and even before results were announced people were sure that they were going to win. Second place was a bit of a surprise to those who did not watch, as it went to Croatian couple Zoran Plohl & Tatsiana Lahvinovich while third place was taken by Alexei Silde & Anna Firstova from Russia. The fact that both of those couples had total of 14 points (places 2,2,2,3,5 and 4,3,3,2,2 for Cha cha, samba, rumba, paso and jive) and scrutineers had to apply additional rules, shows how equal was the level of dancing for those two couple.
